Poppy is a perennial herb. Forms a basal rosette with carved leaves. On high peduncles 1 m in height, large red and pink flowers, 10-12 cm in diameter, appear in May.
Oriental poppy blooms for 30 days. Then gradually the leaves dry up and the plant goes into a dormant state. New leaves appear in the fall. Oriental poppy overwinters with new leaves.
There is a variety of rock-breaking poppy that blooms from May to September. Orange flowers up to 5 cm in diameter. Height during flowering 40 cm. Poppy is a winter-hardy plant. Grows well in full sun. Any drained garden soil is suitable.
