Monarda is a long-rhizome perennial plant. The erect stems of the monarda are covered with leaves with a strong aroma, similar to those of mint leaves. The flowers are fragrant, collected in globular inflorescences. Flowers are white pink red lilac. Monarda blooms in June-July for 30-40 days.
Peduncle height 50-60 cm. Prefers light soils in open sunny places. The plant is winter hardy. Once every 5 years, the plant must be divided. Monarda is sometimes called bergamot mint, its aroma is similar to the smell of wild bergamot, which is used to flavor tea.
